This year, 2017, celebrate the craft of quilting with a Sesquicentennial Quilt Show and Sale. Combining Quilt Shows of the past with Quilt Sales held more recently, and adding lots of Sesquicentennial flavour, the Sanctuary at Westmount will come alive with a huge display of quilts, artfully showcased on the church pews. The large stage area will feature quilts made to honour Canada’s 150th birthday, as well as art created in other mediums for this celebration. The library area will reflect Orillia’s history since Orillia as a city shares this special birthday with Canada. Looking back at our past, the lounge will be arrayed in vintage and antique quilts, portraying the beauty of quilts made by our ancestors. Downstairs, there will be a very large sale of quilts, quilted and sewn items – some of them made specifically to reflect this 150th birthday. Displays will be enhanced by items of Canadiana portraying things pertinent to Canada – history, animals, tartan, flag, Centennial year , and things uniquely Canadian. There will be over 300 quilts available for your viewing pleasure (some of them for sale). This is a Quilt Show not to be missed, and you are invited to join in this Sesquicentennial celebration of the handmade quilt.
This Show & Sale will take place at Westmount Congregation, United Church of Canada, 23 Westmount Dr. S., Orillia on Friday, June 2 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., and on Saturday, June 3 from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Admission is $6.00, parking is free. Come and be amazed at the variety of quilts, and the quilting talents of today’s quilters, and those from the past.
